Coal shortage causes generation losses of 7 BU in 2010-11


Depleted coal stocks in the face of ever increasing demand have severely affected generation at various coal-based power plants in the country. As per the latest report released by the Operation Monitoring Division of the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), such scarcity has resulted in generation losses to the tune of 7 BU over the fiscal year 2010-11. 
8NTPC`s stations, once again, topped the list and contributed a major chunk to the deficit, with 5,096.5 MU worth of losses. In line with expectations, its Kahalgaon STPS recorded the highest generation loss, of 3,749.2 MU. This was followed by Talcher STPS (872.5 MU) and Vindhyanchal STPS (229.9 MU).
