The government expects to achieve additional power generation capacity of 16,000 MW in the remaining 10 months of the 11th five-year plan, more than half of the total capacity added in the last four years. Going by the current estimate, the government would still fall short of the revised five-year plan target of 62,000 MW, since it would be able to add only about 52,000 MW by March 2012. Let's have a realistic target. We would be able to do a 16,000 MW capacity addition, that includes 2,000 MW of nuclear power, by March 2012, a Power Ministry official said. He said the ministry has achieved a capacity addition of 36,000 MW till the end of May.
