Sourcing equipment a challenge: Power Ministry

Stating that the power sector will need USD 300 to 400 billion of investment in the next Five-Year Plan, the Power Ministry today said sourcing the necessary equipment for plants is becoming a major challenge, reports PTI.
``Supply of main plant equipment (boilers, turbines and generators) should not be an issue for meeting the 12th Plan power generation target. The issue would be Balance of Plant (BoP) equipment,`` Power Secretary P Uma Shankar said.BoP generally refers to ancillary power equipment such as switchgear and control systems.``We need to widen the vendor base for BoP equipment... Right now, the capacity (for producing such equipment) of existing players is overstretched,`` he said.
