NTPC invites EoI for outdoor transformer packages

To identify prospective suppliers of outdoor transformers for its upcoming thermal power projects (TPP) in the country, the state-run NTPC has invited ex-pression of interest (EoI) from the transformer vendors, with experience in executing contracts for outdoor transformer packages in the past. Pertinently, NTPC has, recently, invited EoI for various packages, including the power transformers, control cables package, HT cables package, cooling water system, ash handling system and ventilation system, for its upcoming TPPs, as well as for the hydro-mechanical, electro-mechanical and civil work packages for its hydel ventures.
NTPC has, however, clarified that these EoIs are not for short listing contractors. "This invitation for ex-pression of Interest is not intended for empanelment or pre-qualification of bidders. Separate NITs shall be floated by NTPC for procurement of outdoor transformers for its forthcoming projects as and when required", said an NTPC statement. "Firms of repute, in India and abroad, who have executed contracts in past, for design, construction and commissioning of outdoor transformers package and have the capabilities and competencies to undertake such an assignment, are invited to submit their application for EoI", the statement added.
The scope of work under this package would include the design, engineering, manufacture, testing at works, short circuit testing, transportation to site, receipt, handling and storage on site, erection and commissioning of the transformers, along with neutral grounding resistors, mandatory spares and maintenance equipment. To realize its goal of becoming a 75,000 MW utility by 2017, NTPC has a long list of projects in the pipeline. Currently thermal power projects worth around 18,000 MW of capacity are under various stages of implementation and the company plans to place orders for another 12,500 MW during 2010-11. According to NTPC, the EoI document will be available for free download till July 29, 2010 and the interested parties can respond to the same latest by August 12, 2010.
