351 MW Hazira Extension project slips to next fiscal

The completion of the 351 MW Hazira Extension project in Gujarat, being executed by Gujarat State Energy Generation Limited (GSEG), is likely to slip to the next fiscal as the supply of critical piping and turbines for the project is still awaited. The synchronization and attainment of full load for the project, which was slated for November and December 2010 is now likely to shift to February and March 2011 respectively. As for the associated transmission system (ATS), work on the GSEG-Kosamba line has to be expedited in order to adhere to the anticipated completion schedule of December this year. Pertinently, the contract for the execution of the GSEG-Mota line was awarded in March this year and work has started on that front. The supply of critical piping and HP/IP (high pressure/intermediate pressure) turbines are expected this month.
This extension is a part of GSEG's expansion plan for addition of 1,000 MW of power, in three stages of 350 MW each, which is being executed by the state utility in the village of Mora, in the Surat district of the state. This thermal power plant, with an envisaged cost of Rs 1,050 crore, will generate power using natural gas with a provision to use liquid fuels in emergencies.
