MoP recommends requirement of 56.08 mmscmd gas for eight projects worth 13,670 MW

In a recent letter to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoP&NG), MoP has sought an allocation of 56.08 mmscmd of gas for both Private and Central / State Sector having a total capacity of 13,669.5 MW. The details of which are as follows.
  • The major chunk of the gas requirement as per Empowered group of Ministers (EGOM) norms, comes from six under construction projects with a capacity of 4066 MW requiring 15.59 mmscmd, and an additional eight private projects which are under consideration likely to be commissioned in the 11th plan period, requiring 16.22 mmscmd of gas.  
  • Other projects include NTPC`s Kawas and Gandhar (2600 MW), DMICDC (1000 MW), and NTPC`s kayamkulam Stage-II (1050 MW) each requiring 9.70 mmscmd, 3.75 mmscmd and 3.92 mmscmd of gas respectively. 8Finally, the remaining three projects, Puducherry Power Corporation Ltd at Yannam (350 MW), HPGENCO Faridabad (750 MW), and Karimnagar of APGENCO (700 MW) also require 1.30 mmscmd, 2.80 mmscmd and 2.80 mmscmd of gas respectively.
