Adani Power bags MoEF clearance for 1980 MW Mundra expansion project

In a fillip to the implementation of Adani Power's 4,620 MW Mundra thermal power plant (TPP), located in the Kutch district of Gujarat, the Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF) has accorded environmental clearance to the 3x660 MW Phase-III of the thermal venture. The land requirement for this supercritical technology-based expansion project is estimated to be 198.20 hectares. The fuel requirement of this project would be met by blending imported coal with domestic coal, in a ratio of 70:30. The project is estimated to be developed at an expense of Rs 8,960 crore. Pertinently, there are no national parks, wildlife sanctuaries, biosphere reserves, heritage sites , etc., within a 10 km-radius of the plant boundary.
Meanwhile, the erection of boilers and civil work have started for all the three units of this phase. While hydro tests for the boilers of all the units are expected to be wrapped up by July, October and December  2010, respectively, condenser erection is scheduled to start by October 2010. Notably, the Adani Group-company awarded the turnkey contract for the project to the Chinese firm, Shandong Electric Power Corporation-III (SEPCO III), which is expected to execute both the main plant and balance of plant (BoP) packages, in January 2008.  Adani Power plans to commission this phase in November 2011, while the commissioning of the balance 2x330 MW units of the 4x330 MW first phase and 2x660 MW second phase are expected in September 2010 and August 2011, respectively. The first two units of Phase-I was commissioned in March 2010.
