Power Minister Mr Sushil Kumar Shinde on Wednesday said his ministry was confident of meeting the revised power target of 62,000 MW in the 11th plan period, ending March, 2012.“We have already achieved 40,000 MW and every week new capacity is being added and so we are confident that we will meet the 62,000 MW target,” Mr Shinde told PTI.
The initial target for the 11th Plan was 72,000 MW, but it was revised downward due to not so satisfactory progress on various issues like monitoring, order placement and equipment shortages, among others.“I had only asked for a higher target in the 11th Plan period and only due to this we have able to add 15,000 MW in FY 2011, which has never happened before in India,” Mr Shinde added.“We have been able to streamline the problems and now the progress in implementation of projects would be faster,” he said.
